ELA and the Lab School

The Lab School is an alternative program designed to offer students a "different" approach to the high school experience. Students in this program are required to complete extensive research projects, internships and 60 hours of community service prior to graduating. Community meetings and a student-driven judicial system are two of the unique aspects of this program.

Although students in the Lab School face more project-based assessments (mid-term and/or final examinations are replaced with research-based projects and presentations) they are still required to meet all New York State Regents standards and requirements. In short, the Lab School offers a small community atmosphere within the larger school environment.

Lab School Book Club

One of the unique aspects of the Lab School is its monthly book club meetings. Each month of the academic year a novel is selected that is an addition to the curriculum, and all students, staff and parents involved in the program are welcome to read the novel and join the group discussion. It is not at all uncommon to see parents, teachers, students and administrators sharing their insight and opinions about the selection of the month. Interested? Contact any member of the Lab School staff for more details, (518) 439-4921.
