Principal's Letter
Feb. 3, 2012
Dear Elsmere Families,
Happy National Wear Red Day! We have had a great start to February with a focus on the heart. Students in grades K-2 made posters and grade 3-5 students wrote essays about keeping our hearts healthy. Our Dimes for the Heart collection is growing to which our Elsmere staff added our “wear red” $223.00 contribution to the American Heart Association. And get ready for our heartfelt hallway display of individual valentines for every student created by the Elsmere staff!
Congratulations to our fifth graders on their DARE graduation held this week. Over the past nine weeks these students, led by Officer Dave Harrington, learned strategies for making healthy and productive life choices. Thank you to our superintendent, middle school principal and town supervisor for their words of wisdom and support.
With the spring like weather, your children may have been wearing through their sneakers faster than usual. If you have an old pair of sneakers (in any condition) that you no longer need, please send them into school for a collection run by the agency Hope 7. More information about this is in the newsletter.
This year, BC elementary teachers have been involved in a number of projects to enhance and strengthen math instruction. We are using the New York State common core curriculum as our guide in making math instruction meaningful and interesting. Just talking to your child about how you use math in everyday situations is a great way to help develop your child’s mathematical understandings. Helping your child to commit grade level math facts is also a great benefit to your son or daughter’s math progress. Many websites are available with suggested ways to make this fun, too.
Whether you’re a Giants fan, are rooting for the Patriots or just plan to enjoy time with the best team of all – your family- I wish you a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Kate Kloss
