Healthy Kids Week: March 29-April 2

Most students at the middle school, except those exempted by the Committee on Special Education, begin to study a new language in sixth grade. Elsmere Science Fair - Thursday, March 25

In less than 7 weeks, we will have the annual Elsmere Science Fair. It is a great event that invites all students to participate in this extracurricular opportunity to practice science in a fun, creative, hands-on and non-competitive way. So, check out the handbook, available as a PDF here, and sent home with your child this week, for rules and procedures, online resources, registration and volunteer forms.

Elsmere School-Wide Student Directory

A few directories are available for purchase. If you would like one please send in $3.00 in an envelope marked "School Directory." Include your child's name and teacher and a directory will be sent home with your child.

Girl Scout Troop 1927

Girl Scout Troop 1927 is collecting donations for the Mohawk Hudson Human Society. This is a difficult time for the animals and they need your help! Paper towels, peanut butter, copy paper, cleaning supplies etc are always needed.(A full list is on the website). Please bring donations to school a box is located outside the office. Thanks for your help!

Lip Sync DVD Orders

It is not too late to order your Lip Sync DVD. Orders will be taken until Friday 2/12. Forms are available in the main office.

Tennis balls needed

One of our classrooms needs tennis balls for the bottom of the chairs. If you have any tennis balls please send them to our main office.

Sweet treats for education

Beginning this week through the end of the month, Elsmere is partnering with Krause's Candy Factory to sell a variety of their delicious treats. Fifty percent of the profits will go directly to the Elsmere PTA! A packet of information was sent home with your child; please refer to it for details. Enjoy a short stack for a tall cause

You're invited to the 3rd Annual Applebee's Flapjack Fundraiser Breakfast to support the Elsmere PTA. The breakfast is on Saturday, March 6 from  8-10 a.m. at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 291 Route 9W in Glenmont. Tickets are $5.00 each. Download the ticket order form. [PDF] Applebee's cooks the breakfast but we have to provide people to greet, seat, serve and clear the tables. Are you interested in volunteering for a shift? It's a lot of fun! Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Workshop: Homework struggles and strategies to help

Do your children struggle with homework assignments and do you struggle to assist them? Learn more about common homework struggles and discover strategies to assist with behavior issues, building literacy skills, and technology tools. This session will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school's PPS conference room. To register for this program, please call 439-8886 ext. 25469 or e-mail Amy Grant.

Bus Garage Lost and Found is full again

Hats, mittens, bathing suits, towels, jackets and lunch boxes are a few of the items left on school buses. If you are missing a piece of clothing, stop by the district's Transportation Facility at 82 Van Dyke Road; for smaller items, such as electronics or glasses, call 439-3830. The Lost & Found will emptied during February recess and donated to a needy school. 

Do you have a child ready to start kindergarten next year?

Kindergarten registration for children who will be 5 years old by December 1, 2010, will be held in February this year. A packet of registration materials with detailed information about registering will arrive in the mail in early January. If you did not receive this information, please contact district Registrar Melissa Haas at 439-7481.
