Jody Monroe, who has a record of excellence as an administrator, teacher, technology educator and curriculum specialist, has been named the district’s next assistant superintendent of educational programs and instruction. The appointment is effective July 1, when Dr. Michael Tebbano will vacate the position to become Bethlehem Central’s next superintendent.

The Board formally appointed Ms. Monroe at its June 4 meeting.

In recent weeks, interview teams made up of teachers, support staff, parents, students, and administrators met with talented applicants out of a pool of 60 potential candidates interested in the position.

“I’m honored to have been selected and looking forward to bringing my diverse experiences to the role of a K-12 administrator,” said Ms. Monroe, who became Bethlehem Central Middle School’s Principal in June 2005. “What attracted me to the position is the opportunity to work with staff members and the wider community as we make sure the district evolves to meet the challenges of a changing world where students are expected to compete globally.”

Prior to coming to Bethlehem Central three years ago, she was principal of Stillwater Middle/High School. She also served as an assistant principal and director of technology in Stillwater for two years.

During the interview process, Ms. Monroe emphasized a focus on strengthening literacy instruction and students’ use of technology, and incorporating the two together, as well as using data and trend analysis to improve instruction.

“Jody impressed the interview committees as an educational leader with not only a commitment to the district’s record of excellence and high expectations, but also the vision to make sure the district does what it takes to meet students’ needs in an age of globalization and technological innovation,” said Dr. Tebbano, who will become superintendent on July 1. “She has a solid background and is forward thinking.”

Ms. Monroe earned her bachelor’s degree from Russell Sage College in 1992, and her master’s degree in education from the College of St. Rose in 1994. She began her career as a special education teacher in South Colonie, where she later became a sub-committee chairperson for the district’s Committee on Special Education.

A full search for a new Middle School principal is underway, as the vacancy was posted on June 4.
