From books about the legal system for high school students to stories about misbehaving puppies for elementary students, libraries in the district’s schools grew this week as a tribute to the service of Bethlehem Central’s Board of Education members.

With the state's annual School Board Recognition Week approaching, the district continued its tradition of honoring Board members by donating books to school libraries in their names. Board members signed the books donated on their behalf at the Oct. 17 Board of Education meeting.

Oct. 22 through Oct. 26 is School Board recognition week throughout New York State. In his proclamation designating this special week, Gov. Eliot Spitzer wrote, “The members of New York’s local school boards are community leaders who provide an invaluable resource as local decision makers, responding not only to the respective educational needs of their communities, but also serving in the interests of schoolchildren and their future.”

Board of Education members are volunteers who give countless hours of their time and talents for the benefit of the district, its students and community.

“I have seen firsthand the depth of the commitment and passion each of our Board members brings to their very important jobs on behalf of the community and out students,” Superintendent Les Loomis said. “Our Board is among the finest around, and we thank the members for their service.”

The books will be delivered to the school libraries, with mention of the gesture and Board members noted inside the front covers.
