Slingerlands Odyssey of the Mind team strikes again: Another first place!
Release Date: Mar. 5, 2009
It's on to Binghamton for the Slingerlands Odyssey of the Mi team, a perennial regional problem-solving powerhouse.
The 7-member team, shown here, took first place in a regional Odyssey of the Mind (OM) competition on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Mohonasen Central School District. Odyssey of the Mind emphasizes creative problem solving and teamwork, as students work together to approach a problem in a unique way and then demonstrate their answer in a skit.
The Slingerlands team competed in problem 5: Superstition, Division I against 10 other teams. They also completed a spontaneous problem solving session with the judges. The combination of these two scores put them in first place.
The team will go on to compete in the State competition on Saturday, April 4th at Binghamton University.
Problem 5 was to "create and present a performance that includes two documented superstitions, an original superstition created by the team, and the events that caused the original superstition to come to be. The performance will also include a funny narrator, a costume that is worn by two or more team members at the same time, and a stage set. During the performance the same stage set items will be used to change from one setting to another."
The Slingerlands Odyssey of the Mind Team is: Luke Thompson, Ben Licht, Emily Bouton, Nora Sheehan, Julia Nugent, Selin Gumustop, and. Fiona Nugent.
