BCHS Science Bowl team is tops in the region; BCMS team places second
Release Date: March 9, 2009
Both the BCMS and BCHS Science Bowl teams posted strong showings – including a first place finish for the High School team – at the National Science Bowl regional competition held on Saturday, March 7th at the GE Global Research Center in Niskayuna.
The High School team won 11 straight, including victories over some very tough teams including Shenendehowa, Saratoga and Shaker.
The championship means the students have won an all expense paid trip to Washington DC to compete in the National Science Bowl sponsored by the United States Department of Energy. Congratulations to Maggie Chu, James Moody. Leland Mayron, Austin Mayron and Connor Duffy and good luck at the Nationals.
"We played some very tough teams and our kids rose to the occasion," coach and BCHS science teacher Paul O'Reilly said. "This group has a real chemistry and their passion for learning makes being their coach a delightful experience."
Middle School Team
Five BCMS students participated on the Middle School team, which missed the regional title by one question in a final round match against Niskayuna.
"Our team worked well together and performed our best time of 6.74 seconds in the hydrogen fuel car race, as well as winning 5 of our 6 academic contests," said Coach Lisa Wood. "Congratulations go to Kevin Chang, Lyndsay Cheu, Luke Herzog, Rohin Bose, and Philip Groenwegen! We applaud you for your team work and a job well done!"
