BCHS students return to class after morning bomb threat
Release Date: May 11, 2009
Students have returned to class Monday morning after a bomb threat disrupted the morning at Bethlehem Central High School.
At about 7:35 a.m., school administrators were made aware of a written bomb threat found in the school building. They immediately placed the school’s emergency procedures into effect, calling the Bethlehem Central Police Department to sweep the building as a precautionary measure. Students were moved to safe zones while police performed this check.
Shortly before 9 a.m., the building was determined to be safe. Students returned to classes and the school day resumed as scheduled. The district would like to thank the Bethlehem Police Department for its work, and students and staff for their cooperation in this situation.
It is important for students and the community to know how seriously the district takes both the safety of its students and their ability to receive an education free from such unnecessary interruptions. All threats, no matter how vague, will be addressed and investigated.
In October 1999, Governor George Pataki signed legislation making it a Class E felony for anyone to issue a false bomb threat directed toward a school in New York State. Anyone with information about who might be responsible for this threat should contact either the Bethlehem Police Department or a school administrator. The district will be working with the police to pursue this matter in every possible way.
