BC 'Reads for the Record'
Release Date: October 8, 2009

Administrators, Board of Education members and staff members fanned out across the district on Thursday, Oct. 8 to read well-known children's book "The Hungry Caterpillar" to kindergarten and first grade classes as part of the international "Read for the Record" program.

The program is sponsored by Jumpstart and Pearson Foundation. Jumpstart is a non-profit program that encourage awareness of reading for pre-school children. Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) is coordinating with Read for the Record to help build awareness and participation in this event.

By encouraging reading the same book, on the same day, October 8, 2009, we hope to develop reading awareness that will last a lifetime. The program hopes to help Americans understand how essential early childhood literacy skills are to a life of sustained learning and success.

"I can't think of anything more important that to be here reading to you," Superintendent Michael Tebbano told Eagle Elementary School kindergarten students on Thursday.
