Slingerlands News

It was American Education Week here at Slingerlands. Our teachers welcomed our parents into the classroom for a hands-on experience of what the day is like for us. Our parents were able to be a part of our daily learning.
Mrs. Reiss, a third grade teacher commented on American Education Week: “I think it’s a great opportunity for students to share their knowledge with the people who are closest to them. Education has changed so much from the time the students parents were young. Allowing them into the classroom lets them experience these changes.”
The halls were filled with laughter and smiling kids eagerly awaiting the arrival of their parents. The cafeteria was filled from wall-to-wall with families joining their child for lunch.
“Extra tables were needed because there were so many kids and parents,” stated Cameron Scoons. So many parents were able to see our teachers deliver lessons and participate in our learning that we enjoy so much each day.
“It felt really good having my dad come into my classroom for math. Math is my favorite subject. It was really cool that my dad got to sit with me and see how much I have improved because we study math a lot at home, especially over the summer,” remarked 4th grader, Renato Maritato from Mrs. Messier’s fourth grade.
American Education is always fun and we can’t wait for next year when our parents can come again!
