Help Glenmont win $25,000 and build community
Posted: January 25, 2010
The Glenmont Elementary School has applied for a $25,000 grant from Pepsi. The money would be used to support the 4th year of their Building Community Through Dance project. The mission of the project is to use swing dance to build meaningful relationships within the community and to pass on the tradition of this American art form. It brings together elementary students, their parents, siblings, grandparents, high school dancers, college students, and other senior adults in our community. Social dancing provides opportunities for the students to develop their communication and social skills. The $25,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant would cover the cost of two one-week dance residencies and two swing bands to play during the teaching sessions. A Community Dance is being planned for June for students and their families.
