Simply put, Kate Reilly is a super young woman. She is always positive and easy going and she never backs down from a challenge. Kate is in a class full of boys (she and another girl are the only female students) in English, so when we read Romeo and Juliet, she volunteered often to read the female roles, much to the relief of the boys. This is just one of the many examples of how Kate is a contentious leader in the classroom. Academically, Kate works hard for everything she does and is shows. She hasn’t missed one homework assignment this year and her Quarter 3 average was a 98 – the highest quarter average a student has ever earned in my class! I would say “Keep it up, Kate”, but I know that you will. So instead, I will say “Thank you, Kate, for being your wonderful self.”
Students of the Marking Period
At the end of each marking period, we honor students whose attitude, effort, and achievement have been exemplary. Please meet our outstanding third quarter scholars:
English: Kate Reilly

Global: Steve Kolbay

Please meet the Global Student of the Marking Period, Steve Kolbay. So what made this young man deserving of this honor? How about a final average of 100?! Each quarter, Global students have their lowest quiz score dropped. Steve’s “lowest” was 95, the other three all 105 – he earned bonus points on each quiz for perfect spelling. Equally impressive was the DBQ Steve wrote. It is a relative rarity to achieve a grade of 100 on an essay. Mr. Kolbay, however, did just that, with a superb discussion of the contributions of the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan civilizations. And as if these accomplishments were not enough, Steve demonstrated his excellent organizational skills with a meticulously-maintained binder, turned in early, of course, for ten bonus points. Steve Kolbay epitomized the qualities of an outstanding history student. And for that, he is duly recognized as the Global Student of the Quarter.
Math: Max Kracker
Congratulations, Max! Max has performed at an extremely high level throughout this year. He has completed every homework assignment this year, and has earned a 100% average every quarter this year. He volunteers in class, and is willing to help other students if needed. He never gets impatient while other students are working out problems he has already finished. He is not afraid to ask questions if he doesn’t understand a topic, and is quick to offer insight into topics he does understand. Max is a pleasure to have in math class this year.

Science: Tim Lauricella

Tim exemplified all of the attributes necessary to be a good scientist, student and role model. Tim’s dedication and motivation led to a 100% homework average. He had every assignment in, on time, for the entire quarter. He also displays superb organizational skills earning him a 100% on his binder. In addition to his excellent academic qualities, Tim is a positive role model to his peers. He often finished his class work and lab exercises early and always offers to help others around him. I would like to personally thank Tim for his help in the classroom. I enjoy his sense of humor and dedication to my class! Keep up the great work!
Tutorial: James Grant
We as the Excel team of teachers are happy to announce that James Grant has been awarded the Student of the Quarter for outstanding efforts in the Excel Tutorial period. Not only has James been an essential part of the Eagle program, but his willingness to participate during the tutorial period has made him the perfect candidate for this reward. James has really enjoyed his time over at Eagle and he has demonstrated a great deal of leadership skills this quarter and the students enjoy working with him. Congratulations James on an excellent job!
