BCMS students 'Mix it Up'
On Friday, March 22, BCMS again hosted Mix It Up Day at lunch for the 7th and 8th graders. The students were all “mixed up” as they sat with people they normally do not eat with. Seventh and Eighth grade student leaders and faculty led each table thru a series of fun games and activities to help students get acquainted and meet someone new. The atmosphere in the cafeteria was that of a party with balloons, music, raffle prizes and students and staffed in costumes. The idea behind the event is to break down the social boundaries that often form in school cafeterias. The students learn acceptance and tolerance and gain confidence in knowing they can handle a situation where they do not know everyone. The students also may meet someone new and make a new friend. Two BCMS students selected for NY State Honor Bands
Two Bethlehem Middle School students, Eric Chang (percussion) and Richard Sweeney (tuba) were selected and participated in the New York State Honor Bands on March 1-2, 2013. Every year, Honor Band members are chosen from hundreds of applicants and selected based upon their NYSSMA score from the previous spring. Each ensemble performs during the NYS Band Directors annual Symposium held at the Syracuse Convention Center. Having prepared their music in advance, each student comes to the honor band and rehearses for two days, performing a concert at the end of the second day. Selection to these prestigious ensembles demonstrates exceptional musicianship and is an outstanding accomplishment! VIEW PHOTO »
