It is important to cite your sources when you do
research. In doing so, you give credit to those who provided the information you used, which in turn, lets your readers know
that you have authority behind your statements. You are also avoiding plagiarism, defined as taking another person’s words
and/or ideas without giving that person appropriate credit.
The BCSD district uses the Modern Language Association (MLA) format for citing sources.
The following resources will help you with your citations:
-
The BCMS Style Manual
contains most of the citation formats that you will need. Feel free to download it and keep a print copy.
-
Citation Templates for the most common types of source--books, encyclopedia articles,
magazine and newspaper articles, web pages and websites—can be printed and filled in for convenience.
-
Note Sheets - Some teachers use these for student projects in place of source and note cards
-
How to Create a Works Cited Page - This will show you how to set up your page
with the proper indentation for each citation.
