Summer Enrichment Program 2014

The Summer Enrichment Program offers students entering grades 3-8 in our district an opportunity to engage in hands on learning while still enjoying the perks of summer. A taste of the classes we offer are cooking, movie making, letterboxing, and classes in various sports, among others.

There are two one-week sessions running from July 7 to July 18 with three sessions offered per day. Find out more information by viewing our flyer and visit our website for a full list of course offerings and registration.

Healthy Kids Week (April 21-25) is almost here!

After April break, we will be celebrating Healthy Kids Week at Slingerlands, which means asking our students to give themselves credit for the healthy choices they make during the day. We will be sending home Healthy Choice Tickets for them to hand in on Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, April 25.

Each day, each grade will have one winner chosen and the prizes will be fun sports-themed items! The grand prize will be an extra recess, donated by our principal, to the class that submits the most tickets all week. We will also be having a healthy food drive during the week. We show our best side when we are giving to others. You can find more details about our special week in a note going home in the red folders. Let's enjoy the nice weather and celebrate eating healthy and moving more!

Litterless Lunch Week is April 21-25

Get ready and challenge yourself to pack a 100 percent "litterless lunch" during the week of April 21-25. Every student who brings a lunch packed in reusable containers and produces no waste at all  will receive a ticket and be entered into a drawing for special prizes. Help Slingerlands Join the Crayola ColorCycle Program!

What is Crayola ColorCycle? ColorCycle is a sustainability initiative designed to turn used markers into energy!

How does it work? Used plastic markers are collected by schools and sent to an energy conversion site where the markers are collected in a large container. The plastic is melted and through a process, the hot liquid turns into a clean-burning liquid fuel. The fuel can be used to heat a home, run a car, or cook food!

Can any markers be sent in? Yes! Colorcycle accepts ALL BRANDS of markers. This INCLUDES dry erase markers and highlighters!

Our collection continues until April 30. The school that collects the most wins $500! A collection bin will be in the school lobby. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Bush at hbush@bcsd.neric.org.
